Hidradenitis Hurts but there is always HOPE

Our Story

This website is a work in progress coming from the heart of a mother and the skills & love of a younger daughter for her sister who has H.S.   I realize that there are Fathers, husbands, close relations and many family members not to mention a host of people who are directly or indirectly affected by someone who is living with Hidradenitis Suppurativa.  Their stories must be told as well, but it must be told by them. I’m hoping that this will become the place to begin. A website dedicated to those living with H.S. and those who would like to make a difference in the lives of woman or man living with Hidradenitis Suppurativa.  Did you know children have H.S.?

This website is being developed for all of you, the people who want to know more, to seek answers (which I do not have), find a cure or befriend & support someone who is living with Hidradenitis Suppurativa through your own understanding or knowledge of diseases like this one. I’m hoping people who are living with H.S. will share their thoughts on this site about how you’d like to be treated in your own family and in your own community, what’s helped you manage your discomforts. What’s your story, do you have a testimonial that you'd like to share or help someone else.

A young woman dear to me said “your testimony is not your own.”   And this same young woman and mother recently began a blog for her daughter who is living with a different incurable disease. Her blog is so meaningful that it caused me to think about my daughter and what I could do that would honor her living. Little did I know, at the time, that this woman’s endeavors and her story would motivate me to do the same.  Nor had I connected the dots until I began this process…we both have daughters living with two different types of diseases that are incurable; Diseases that cause ongoing pain that cripples the victim and last so long, and is so deep that the medications prescribed by their doctors have lost their effectiveness.  Incurable diseases can tax anyone especially the victim.  We must adopt the "village" concept and values by coming together to heal where medicine can't or doesn't.

For my daughter and all those living with Hidradenitis Suppurativa I acknowledge your pain.  Hidradenitis Suppurativa hurts, but there is always hope!

                                                            Go After Your Dreams

You're good, but you're going to be great.
You're the best, but you're going to get better.

Sometimes the paths we take are long and hard, but remember:

those are always the ones that lead to the most beautiful views. Challenges
come along inevitably: how you respond to them determines who you are - deep down inside -                                                and everything you're going to be.
Increase the chances of reaching your goals by working at them gradually.

The very best you can do is all that is asked of you.
Realize that you are capable of working miracles of your own making.
Remember that opportunities have a reason for knocking on your door,
and the right ones are there for the taking. You don't always have to win,
but you do need to know what it takes to be a winner.

It's up to you to find the key that unlocks the door to a more fulfilling life.
Understand that  increased difficulty brings you nearer to the truth
of how to survive it - and get beyond it.

Cross your bridges. Meet your challenges.

Reach out for your dreams, and bring them closer and closer to your heart.
Get rid of the "if only's" and get on with whatever you need to do to get things right.
Go after what you want in life, with all the blessings of all the people who care about you.

And find out what making your wishes come true really feels like.

Marian Wright Edelman said; “If you don’t like the way the world is, you change it. You have an obligation to change it. You just do it one step at a time.”
400,000 people can’t all be wrong about Hidradenitis Suppurative (HS), it really hurts and as the mother of a daughter who has HS – for me it hurts the one I love. That’s how many people, reportedly, have this insidious disease; it could be more, millions is what I’ve heard that may be in the United States alone. It doesn’t discriminate against age, sex, and national origin or choose between the rich or poor, it just happens and it’s not a matter of whether you are weak or strong it’ll take all of your energy in time if you allow it to happen.

Personally when I looked at my daughter today and imagined what she’s going through I thought she must feel like Peter Finch in the 1976 movie “Network” who said “I’m mad as hell and I’m not going to take it any longer!” But what she told me was “Momma, I’m not about to commit suicide!” I’ve got too much to live for and I believe there is a cure out there somewhere!”

Who knows what we all might discover, why with a little work one voice can become 12 million strong and this disease will no longer be orphaned because people are too embarrassed to tell somebody.

Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.

“The angel of the Family is Woman.  Mother, wife or sister, Woman is the caress of life, the soothing sweetness of affection shed over its toils, a reflection for the individual of the loving providence which watches over Humanity. In her there is treasure enough of consoling tenderness to allay every pain. Moreover for every one of us she is the initiator of the future. The mother’s first kiss teaches the child love; the first holy kiss of the woman he teaches man hope and faith in life; and love and faith create a desire for perfection and the power of reaching towards it step by step; create the future, in short, of which the living symbol is the child, link between us and the generations to come. Through her the Family, with its divine mystery of reproduction, points to Eternity”

Giuseppe Mazzini
